What has improved in the new Point compared to the first version?

There are several updates and improvements in the new Point.

The new Point features a much more powerful processor. This allows Point to do more computations locally on the device and more accurately detect specific events. Compared to the first version, the new Point will have significantly better performance for glassbreak detection for example.

It contains a piezo siren which can make significant noise should smoke or intruders be detected. It still has a small speaker for local notifications.

The smoke detector is based on an established reference design used by several existing smoke detectors. It won’t be able to distinguish cigarette smoke and other airborne hazards though. We aim to take Point through the smoke detector certification.

We replaced the temperature and humidity sensor for one with better quality. For those who experienced issues with wi-fi, we have also changed chipset for a more commonly used one. This chipset also has Bluetooth support to assist with installation.

The new Point has a built-in rechargeable battery. We expect it to last between 6-12 months depending on the environment conditions. A full charge takes about 4 hours.

Oh, and the app is getting a significant update!

Is the Point app available for both Android and iOS?

Yes! It is available already today in Google Play and AppStore but will see a significant update before the new Point is shipped.

Can I use existing Points alongside the new one?

Yes! There are some features that won’t be available in the old Point, such as the alarm features, but you will be able to use both together in the same app.

What will the subscription cost be in the future?

We haven’t decided exactly what the subscription plan will look like, but we’re planning for a freemium model with a premium option. Back us now and you never have to think about it! :)

Can I get a subscription for my friends and family on Kickstarter?

The subscription will be tied to the email used to fulfil your Kickstarter pledge. Hence, it’s not possible to “donate” a subscription with a Point received from the Kickstarter campaign.

Can I up my super-early bird pledge to get multiple Points?

No. The best option to get multiple Points (and save some on shipping) is to go for one of the multipacks. That way we can guarantee you get the right number of Points.

Is Point a smoke detector?

Point contains a smoke detector similar to other commercial optical fire alarms, but is not certified according to regulatory requirements and does not replace a certified smoke detector.

We have initiated collaboration with a certification company and aim to take Point through the process. However, it is not unlikely that changes will have to be made to the hardware. We cannot guarantee the Points received for a Kickstarter pledge will be certified in the future.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
